OH MAN this site brings me RIGHT back!! I spent SO many hours in middle school just making weird pages about my favorite bands and putting animated fire GIFs everywhere!! Nobody cared about followers or algorithms, you just made stuff because you WANTED to!! Every page was different and funky and YOURS!! That was the magic of it!! People just being creative and weird and putting their whole personality into a homepage!! I miss that SO much!! Thank you for keeping this spirit alive!!!

ok i literally just found out about neocities like 2 months ago and it changed my LIFE. i'm 16 and i had no idea the internet used to be like this?? everyone just making their own weird little pages with gifs and stuff instead of posting on the same 3 apps. i've been working on my site nonstop and finding directories like this makes me so happy =D the old web is NOT dead!! ty for keeping this going ^_^

ok does ANYONE else remember those "build your own homepage" services that werent geocities?? i'm thinking of one that had like a wizard with premade layouts and midi selectors and i swear it was called something like homestead or homepoint?? it had these awful clipart borders you could drag around. i spent HOURS on that thing in like 1998 and i can barely find proof it existed. if anyone knows what im talking about please tell me im not crazy lol. love this directory btw bookmarked immediately

Great directory! Does anyone else remember those old webrings where you could click 'next' and 'previous' to hop between sites? I used to spend hours just clicking through the Origami Webring back in like 1999. Every site had a different background tile and a little under construction gif somewhere. I run a site about paper folding and I've been trying to recreate that feel. Would love to find anyone who was part of that same ring!

OH MY GOSH I am SO excited right now!! I just made my kids sit down and watch me sign an ACTUAL GUESTBOOK!! They were like "mom what is this" and I was like THIS is how we used to do things on the internet!!! You visited a cool site and you SIGNED THE GUESTBOOK!! It was just what you DID!! ok so I found this directory like two weeks ago and I've been going through it every night before bed lol. I keep finding these old shrine pages where people just made entire websites dedicated to one character they love?? It's so cool and honestly way more creative than just posting on social media. man this site rules. i spent like an hour clicking thru the links lol. reminds me of when i was 12 and i had a geocities page where i hand-wrote every single tag in notepad. no css even, just raw html tables and like 6 animated gifs of spinning skulls. that was REAL web dev haha. nowadays i write go for work but honestly a static html page with no js will always feel more honest to me than whatever react monstrosity ppl are shipping. bookmarked this, keep it goin!

Love this directory. Webrings and link pages were honestly the best way to discover things online. You found stuff that was genuinely weird and interesting because a real person picked those links, not an algorithm. I maintain a small link page on my own site and people tell me they appreciate it more than anything else I've built. A plain HTML page with a list of good links will always beat a bloated React app that does the same thing but slower.

Just spent like two hours clicking through this directory and found a whole section of hand-coded shrines dedicated to old video games. Someone made a full walkthrough site for Myst with their own screenshots and everything, hosted on Geocities-style pages with starfield backgrounds. I almost cried. This is how the internet is supposed to feel. Bookmarked about 30 sites tonight. Thank you for keeping this alive!

found this place through a link on somebody's geocities-style page and i've been clicking around for like two hours now. i forgot how good it feels to just... browse. no algorithms deciding what i see, no engagement metrics, just people making weird little pages about stuff they love. social media turned the internet into a mall but places like this remind me it used to be a neighborhood. anyway im bookmarking this immediately, thank you for keeping this alive!!

honestly i stumbled on a geocities archive a few months ago and it hit me like a ton of bricks. i used to spend hours just clicking through peoples homepages when i was like 12, reading about their cats and their favorite x-files episodes. everything felt so genuine back then. nobody was trying to build a brand, they just wanted to share stuff they liked. finding this directory reminded me why i fell in love with the internet in the first place. gonna try making my own page again soon

omg i just found this site like 2 weeks ago and its literally what got me into making my own page!! i have a site about my cat Biscuit and also i collect stamps which i know sounds boring but its actually really cool lol. i taught myself html from looking at page sources of sites i found here. still figuring out how to make the background tile right but im getting there. anyway thanks for keeping this directory going its so much better than modern social media imo
